Very often parents make their kids to behave by saying words like this ” Don’t do this, the Giant will come and eat you” or ” Don’t do this you will go to Hell” and many other similar phrases. This approach may stop kids from doing a certain actions. What we are doing, we are inducing fear in their mind from the very childhood. When a child grow with fearful mind, he develops a syndrome and then we are try to push some of these fear out of their mind. We encounter fear at every step of our life, some are true and other are injected to persuade us towards certain goals. Politician inject fear by constantly reminding us that if their party is not elected our future is bleak, religious leaders tell us if don’t follow their religious brand we will surely go to hell, marketing company tells us their product is only authentic and trustworthy, students face fear of failure in exam and so on. Fear lives every where around us, if we want to live a fulfilling and fearless life, we have to overcome all these fears but unfortunately it is not easy. Bible tells us that fear of God liberates us from all the fears.
King David was one of the bravest men of his time, and he is remembered as one one of the bravest men of history. If we go through his biography, we will find that he too had a lot of fears but he overcame all his fears through his firm belief on God and he led a very successful life. I was reading Psalm 46 and found out what King David has to offer as fear therapy:-
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear,
though the earth be removed,
and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,
though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof;
King David overcame all his fears through trust in God, today we have worries about our future, our health, our education, our children, ghosts, bad spirits, disease, hunger, poverty, protection, enemies, etc. We can overcome all our all these fears through strong believe in God. Regular religious education to our children can make them strong and wise, free from illusions, fears and stress.
