St. Nicholas’s Church on Water, Kiev, Ukraine is unique due its unusual location, beauty and simplicity. The church building is built in style of Ukrainian Neo-Baroque, it is not only for the church services, but also it’s the monument to Christening of ancient Russia. Beautiful St. Nicholas Church-Lighthouse is sixty meters tall, stands on the 50 meters cliff above Black Sea and decorated with wonderful frescoes and mosaics.
This is the first and only church in Ukraine, located on the water. It is considered as a monument to the fallen for sailors and seamen of all times, the complex includes a memorial wall that has nameplates of people who died in the sea. The construction work started on 19 December 2003 and completed on 07 July 2004. It looks beautiful with shiny golden domes. The entrance to the church is across the bridge on Dnepr River.
The temple houses the Icon of St. Nicholas with a particle of relics of this Saint, which is more than 200 years old. It’s about 10 minutes walk from the bottom of the funicular railway.
